How to spot a fake discount
A discount is only real relative to something someone actually paid. Here is the check to run before a 'sale' decides for you.

A percentage off is only meaningful against a reference that was ever real. Many 'list' or 'was' figures are numbers a product never sold at. Before a sale sways you, look at what the item has actually sold for over the last few months using a price-tracking tool, and compare against that rather than the crossed-out figure.
Our own rule is simpler: we never call something a deal, and we never show a figure, because figures go stale the moment we publish them. We tell you whether a product is worth buying at all. The retailer's page tells you what it costs today.
