What We Loved
There is no waiting. Plug it in, section the hair, and by the time the first section is clipped up the iron is ready. The plates are thin enough to press right up against the roots and the edges are rounded so a flick at the end turns under instead of leaving a crease. Ten months in it looks and behaves exactly as it did the day it came out of the box, which is more than we can say for two cheaper irons that preceded it.
What Annoyed Us
The temperature control is a wheel marked with numbers, so setting a specific heat is guesswork and a slip of the thumb changes it mid-pass. There is no auto shut-off, and we have driven home to check it. The top settings are hotter than anyone with normal hair should be using.
The Catch
It is a hot, fast professional tool with no hand-holding. If you tend to reach for maximum heat this will damage hair faster than a gentler iron; if you keep it moderate it is superb.

Performance
One pass on medium hair, two on thick, at a moderate setting. Heat recovery between sections is instant, which is where cheap irons fall down. It glides without pulling. The plates have not scratched or lost their finish, and the hinge is as tight as day one.
