Verdict: Karen Verified
Karen VerifiedThe short answer: It lives in the glove box and has saved more restaurant waits than any tablet. A five-year-old plays on equal terms with a parent and often wins, and the rules fit on the back of the pack.
- Buy it if
- Restaurants, waiting rooms, car trips and the ten minutes before dinner.
- Skip it if
- You want something with strategy; this is pure reflex.
- Best feature
- Every pair of cards shares exactly one symbol, the rules take twenty seconds, and it levels the playing field between ages.
- Biggest annoyance
- The cards bend if they live in a bag, and adults tire of it before children do.
- The catch
- It is a reflex game with no strategy at all, which is why small children love it and why adults are done after four rounds. The tin lid dents and the cards curl in a hot car.
- Evaluation
- In use since September 2025
- Model
- Asmodee Spot It! Classic (2024 refresh)

What we loved, and what annoyed us
What we loved
- Playable in seconds anywhere with a flat surface
- Young children genuinely compete with adults
- Five variants keep it going a little longer
- Cheap enough to own two
What annoyed us
- No strategy, so adults fade fast
- Cards curl and bend in a car
- Loud; expect shouting
What We Loved
Two cards, find the one symbol they share, shout it, grab the card. That is the whole thing, and it has filled the gap between ordering and food arriving at a dozen restaurants. Our youngest beat both parents on her second game, which she has not forgotten. It has also worked at the doctor's office, in a tent and on a train. The round cards are big and the symbols are clear.
What Annoyed Us
After four or five rounds, the adults are looking for something with a decision in it. The cards have picked up a curl from living in the car through summer. The five variants are really the same game with different scoring. And it gets loud, which is a problem in a quiet restaurant.
The Catch
It is one trick, done well. Children between about four and nine will play it endlessly; everyone else plays it to be with them. Keep it in the car and it earns its place; keep it on the game shelf and it gathers dust.

Performance
It works every time, which is the whole review. Games last a few minutes, a session lasts as long as the youngest player's interest, and the cards, though curled, still shuffle and deal fine.
Ease of use, design, and build quality
Ease of use
Deal, flip, shout. There is nothing to set up and nothing to explain twice.
Design and build quality
Bright round cards with a cheerful jumble of symbols in a slim pack. It looks like a toy and is treated like one.
Privacy and connectivity
No app, no account, nothing to connect.
Safety notes
Cards only; no small parts. Fine for young children with supervision.
Cleaning, maintenance, and ongoing costs
Keep it out of the sun and flatten the cards under a book now and then.
What it keeps costing you
| Consumables | None |
|---|---|
| Expected life | A couple of years of car life, longer on a shelf |
Value
Costs about what a fast-food meal does and has entertained more meals than that. A deck of playing cards is cheaper and does not work with a four-year-old; a tablet works and you will regret it.
Alternatives
Sleeping Queens adds simple decisions and reading practice.
Uno holds up to about age twelve before boredom sets in.
