What We Loved
There is plenty to like in the hardware. It has been through a shower caddy, a rainy tent and a child's bath and never missed a beat. The fabric shell and rubber frame feel like they will outlast the battery. For a podcast beside the sink at low volume it is perfectly pleasant, and it is small enough that it goes in a coat pocket without a thought.
What Annoyed Us
Music sounds like it is coming from a phone held in a cup. There is no bass to speak of, and at the volume you need outdoors it turns shrill. The battery is the bigger disappointment: at the volume we used in a garden it ran down in an afternoon, well short of the number on the box, and it charges slowly.
The Catch
It is fine as a shower radio and disappointing as a speaker. The Flip is only a little larger and does not have these problems, which is why we could not verify this one.

Performance
Speech is clear at low volume. Music lacks any low end and gets harsh when turned up; outdoors it competes badly with wind and traffic. In our garden sessions the battery ran down in an afternoon at moderate volume, well short of the manufacturer's figure, which appears to assume a quiet room.
